New Mexico/Arizona and Food Poisoning

Well, Thursday night Nov 18th, I was originally booked in El Paso at a bar gig, but the bar closed down. Sad times, I'm out 100 bucks, but get to spend an extra day with family! Also, my friend, Rusty Rutherford, had a show lined up in Albuquerque at Terrene Hookah, a comedy contest! We actually emailed each other at the exact same time, I asked him for a spot, and he asked me to do a spot, kind of a weird thing that happened there. So before the show I had some time to kill, so I called up my buddy, Nate, to see what he was up to. His band was jamming from 5-7 so I cruised down there to check out the jam session. AnesthesiA is extremely talented! Just watching them jam is amazing, I hope they make it far, they certainly deserve it. Steve's drum set gets bigger every time I see them, it's amazing how he can keep track of all those drums. Wish I could have made it to their show at the Launchpad.

After the jam session I decided to head down to Joe's, which is right next to the Hookah bar. Chatted with some of the comics before the show, met some of the new comics in town, too. The show started a little after 9, I was the 7th comic to go on out of ten. I hung out outside with some friends and missed part of the show, there wasn't much room to watch the show. I had a really solid set, ended up winning first place, Sarah Kennedy got second. I ended up winning some prize money! Got me to Tucson pretty easily which was nice.

I got to Tucson Friday about two hours before the show, I was able to shower and then met up with the headliner, Paul Hooper, from Charlotte, who I had worked with in Oklahoma City back in 2008. He's an awesome comic, if you haven't heard of him yet, you will. Especially if you are reading this. So, the shows in Tucson over the weekend were great! I liked the Friday crowds a little more than Saturday, but can't complain since they were all awesome. I always have a great time at Laffs, the staff and all the local comics are super cool, too, which is always nice.

For some reason Saturday night, Paul and I went to the Denny's by the hotel. It was good while we were there, but not the next day. I got up about 830 and my stomach wasn't feeling very good, i won't go into detail about what happened or anything like that, that's gross. I took Paul to the airport and felt fine then. But, when I got back to my hotel, things weren't really sitting right. I knew it was going to be a long day, so I just decided to rent the hotel for an extra day. It ended up being an awful day! Felt like crap, didn't get anything done, I was pretty bummed. And the Hawkeyes lost a close game to Ohio State the day before, that was pretty sad times, too.

So, now I am back at home in Denver, and I'm feeling better, I just don't have my appetite back yet. I doubt I'll ever go to Denny's again. I am going to McCormick's tomorrow for Thanksgiving with Caitlin! That should be fun, a new place to try. Hope I have my appetite back for that! Caitlin and I have also decided to move back to Albuquerque right around Christmas time! Nothing against Denver, we love it here, but Albuquerque is where most of our family is, and the climate is better.

Laughing Skull 1st Round

Well, I advanced to the first round of the Laughing Skull Festival at Cap City Comedy Club in Austin, Texas. Here's a rundown of what went down.

MC-JR Brow: One of my favorite comics to watch, had to warm up the crowd. Always a pleasure to watch him work.
Julie Kitayama: Came from out East, had a funny set, very likable. Crappy that she had to go first, but she did a great job.
Amy Snowden: Very funny, unique comic, should have gotten a better response. She was one of my favorites of the night though.
Jim Kirkland: Very physical, funny, got great response from the crowd. And he was super cool, he took 2nd.
Stan Silliman: Only old person on the show and was very funny.
Lucas Molandes: Had the set of the night, great material. He got first place. Cool guy, too.
Rob Read: I can't remember any of his jokes right now, but he was a good writer. Also, super cool. Pretty new comic, too.
Jay Dee: Had a good set, he gets better every time I see him.
Me: Had a great set, took 3rd.
Nicholas Aluotto: Good writer, pretty dead pan.
Brian Gaar: Has some great material, with more experience he's gonna be solid.

JR introduced everyone the same, "this comic is a very good friend of mine." He did a great job the show had a nice flow to it. I worked with JR in 2003, my second road gig at Laffs in Tucson. He gave me a lot of pointers that week and I always appreciated the help. He's one of the nicest guys in the business.

Another comic closed the show, I can't remember his name. He went up without trying to be funny, it was pretty entertaining. At that point I didn't care if I placed or not, I knew I had a great set and I was happy to perform at a new club with great comics. I met most of the comics and they all seemed really cool! Seems like the have a great comedy scene in Austin.

Tonight I'm doing a set back in Albuquerque at Terrene Hookah! Should be fun, I've never done the show before. Heading to Tucson for the weekend!

New Travels

Tonight me and the misses are heading down to New Mexico to spend some time with the family. Saturday and Sunday we're gonna hang out in Fort Sumner and Clovis! Monday we'll be in Albuquerque, my nephew is turning three! Tuesday I fly to Austin to perform at Cap City for the Laughing Skull Comedy Festival! Wednesday and Thursday I'll be back in Albuquerque hanging out.

Friday and Saturday next week I'm performing with Paul Hooper at Laffs Comedy Club in Tucson! Paul is an awesome comic, Laffs is a great club. Going to be a fun weekend. I'll keep you posted how I do in Austin! If I make the top 2 I'll advance to Atlanta in April! Lots of ! in this blog, sorry about that. !

Illegal Petes Final Show

Last night was the final show at Illegal Petes. I'm kind of going to miss it, because I was supposed to headline December 4th and get 50 bucks and a free burrito. But, last night was pretty fun, tried a new joke and got a free burrito!

Yesterday, I took a class called Step Up Your Stand Up with Jeff Singer. It was a fun class, it was good to see some of the younger comics. I think the feedback was really helpful for me as well, which is what I was hoping for.

I'm really excited for the show in Austin November 16th! Here's a list of comics I'm competing against: Nicholas Aluotto, Jay Dee, Brian Gaar, Jim Kirkland, Julie Kitayama, Lucas Molandes, Stan Silliman, Amy Snowden, and Rob Read. Jay Dee is the only one I know out of the group.

Comedy Works tonight

Tonight I got to mc at the Comedy Works downtown. Definately wasn't expecting to get on to perform let alone mc. I didn't have a great set or anything, I should have been more prepared. The comics were great tonight, saw a few comics I hadn't seen before. My cousin Dave left me a voice mail, while I was mc'ing, so I called him after the show. His best friend just got in a pretty bad car accident and has had a lot of problems this year, so Dave asked me to do a benefit show for him in Algona, Iowa. Dave's a cool cousin, I'm glad we got in touch after so many years. I hadn't seen or talked him since the mid 90's, but he found me on myspace a few years ago and we've got to hang out when I go back to Iowa which is nice.

Added a couple new bookings to my calendar, I'll be doing the Loony Bins in Oklahoma City and Wichita in May 2011. I haven't been to Wichita in quite awhile. The Oklahoma City club I featured at in May 2009, I worked with Paul Hooper, that was a fun week. I'm working with Paul in a couple weeks in Tucson!

I've been writing articles recently forBuxmag.com I've been doing reviews and previews of college football games and other things on there. It's been a lot of fun, even though I don't know much about Colorado, Colorado State or Air Force. Growing up in Iowa, I was always a Hawkeye fan, and always will be! And they whipped Michigan State's ass with a belt on Saturday!

Comedy Works and Laughing Skull

Last night I did a set at the Comedy Works south club for the "Bring It On" comedy contest. I hate contests, even ones I win, which I did last night! Still, I don't like them. The crowd was a lot of fun, they really liked my stuff. I wasn't expecting much since it was Halloween and it fell on a Sunday. But it turned out great, and I got to perform with some great comics.

After I got home I got an email that notified that I got in the Laughing Skull Festival first round and I'll be performing in Austin, Texas, on November 16th at Cap City Comedy Club!! I'm really excited about it, I've never performed in Austin.

I'm eating breakfast.

My television debut

I filmed for a 5 minute set for a show called "Duke City Comedy League" back in June of this year and it is airing Saturday night in New Mexico and southern Colorado on my50 TV at midnight! It sounds like the show has been doing pretty well! I'm excited to see how it turned out. Also on the show are Mary Byrd and Matt Peterson! So, check it out or tivo it or whatever it is you crazy kids are doing these days.

I'm hoping to line up another show in Albuquerque sometime this year, or early next year. I don't have much on the books for the rest of the year. I did submit for the Laughing Skull Festival though, and I'll know if I made it on November 1! I'm pretty excited, it's the first festival I've tried out for. If I do make it, I'll either get to perform in Austin on Nov 16, LA Nov 16 or Denver Nov 17 for the first round!

red vs black

Caitlin and I went to check out Sam Tallent's band last night, Red Vs Black. It was a pretty awesome show, we hadn't been to any shows in Denver since we moved here. A couple other bands played they were decent. Sam's band tore it up, lots of energy for a 2 man band! Had a lot of fun. And the place they played was really cool. I think it was some dude's apartment right next to a homeless shelter.

Next Sunday is Halloween and I'm doing a set at the south Comedy Works! Yeehaw.

Moe's

Had a fun show at Moe's last night, it's a bar b q restaurant with a bowling alley and stage. It was a pretty nice set up. Lots of comics I have never seen before which was pretty cool. I had a pretty solid set, I was happy about it. The show is ran by the guys from Fried Nothing TV. I had never seen any of them do stand up before so that was pretty cool.

I don't have any shows on the road for about a month now, so I'm just gonna hang out in Denver and do a bunch of local shows if I can. I suck at blogging.

Wits End

This week has been a lot of fun at Wits End so far. Working with Jacob Breckenridge from Tucson who came all the way up to mc, and headlining is Chris Clobber. Wednesday night was a private party, all of the county treasurers came to the show, not a young crowd. Had to do a cleaner set, but had a lot of fun. They were a great group.

Thursday night was a lot of fun, too, and I didn't have to do clean jokes! Had a fun set.

Friday night early show was a big crowd and they were a lot of fun. Second show was pretty small, but they were great laughers. A lot of times they don't want to laugh, but this crowd was fun. Sold some t shirts and dvds, too, which is always fun!

Tonight there are 3 more shows at Wits to close out the week. I always dread the 530 show, but usually end up doing pretty well. I'm tired.

Heading to see King Tut in a few minutes with J-Man Breckenridge and his lady J-Woman. Then I'm gonna watch Iowa beat up on Michigan!

Cancelled Gigs Suck!

Thursday night I did an all star show at Wits End! A bunch of local comics said they'd do sets for free to help out the club and it was awesome! David Testroet, Woody Vincent, Jake Sharon, Frank Schuchat, Leslie, Edith Weiss, Eugene Kenny and Hippieman performed on the show I did. It was about a 2 and a half hour show and it was amazing! Hippieman tour it up! Had a lot of fun.

Friday, Jordan Zuckerman and headed to Albion, Nebraska, to perform at The J! Had a lot of fun, the crowd was pretty quiet for a one nighter, I was actually hoping someone would heckle me, but nope. Great people there though, the bar staff was super cool, too.

Saturday we started driving to our gig in Evansville, Minnesota, which is about 7 hours from Albion. We had just passed Sioux Falls when Jordan got a hold of the people at the bar and found out the show wasn't going on. So, we wasted an entire Saturday driving and making no money at all. Pretty shitty.

Comedy Works

I was able to get on at Comedy Works tonight to film for my submission to the Laughing Skull Festival! Had a great set, it was a lot of fun. Crowd was awesome, comics were awesome, too. Got to see Phil Palisoul, Adam Cayton-Holland, Nora Lynch and Josh Blue just to name a few.

Caitlin is reading a new book, "Anarchy Evolution" by Greg Graffin, singer of Bad Religion. She said it's awesome so far! We're gonna go see Floater at Larimer Lounge!

karma/illegal petes

Caitlin, Jake and I went to Lakewood for a show at Karma on Saturday night. Show started late, wasn't really a great set up for comedy, but the show was actually really fun. The people that were there actually paid attention and got the jokes which was nice. And they had the Iowa-Penn St game on, so I got to see the ending of that!! Go Hawkeyes!! It was a fun show, Sam Tallent, Jodee Champion, Jake Sharon and Jesse Carter performed, too!

Jake and I had another show at Illegal Petes right afterwards which is near Denver University. I'd never been in that area it was kind of cool. The show was pretty awesome, I had a lot of fun. Once again a great lineup: Mooch Wilford, Alicia Jacobs, D. Kelley, Jake, Sam Tallent and Brian Blank. Sam's set was pretty much all improv and he did a great job. Pretty entertaining to watch, he's a bright guy and I think he's gonna do really well. Brian Blank, not so much. Just kidding Brian.

Caitlin and I are going to see Floater on Wednesday night at the Larimer Lounge! I'm excited to see them, I've been a fan since '99 when my friend Nate Tramontina introduced me to their music when we worked at Pizza Hut together. I miss Nate. If you miss Nate, you should check out his band, AnesthesiA! They signed a record deal with Suburban Noize Records last fall. AnesthesiA

This week I have a show at Wits End up in Westminster on Thursday night with Jake Sharon, Dave Testroet, Eugene Kenny, Hippieman, and a few others, it's gonna be a great show! Friday I'll be in Albion, Nebraska, and Saturday in Evansville, Minnesota, with Jordan Zuckerman!

Saturday, October 2, 2010

Shows Tomorrow

Well, I have two shows tomorrow, well actually tonight. One is at Karma in Littleton at 830, and the other one is near DU at Illegal Petes around 1030.

I'm going to Karma a little early to watch Iowa beat Penn State! I'm not sure why I'm still awake. I was getting some stuff done for some articles I've been doing for buxmag.com. It's pretty fun, even though I don't know much about the college football teams in Colorado. Oh well.

Next week we're doing an all star show at Wits End! I'm doing Thursday night with some great comics, then I hit the road for the weekend with Jordan Zuckerman. We're gonna be in Albion, Nebraska, and Evansville, Minnesota. Whee!!

College Football

I finally got to watch some football games this past weekend, which was awesome! I always try to catch all of the Iowa football games. I made it back to the hotel to watch the second half of the Iowa-Arizona game. Iowa made it a game, but fell short, which made me pretty sad. But it's only one loss, and they could get a rematch in the Rose Bowl! I always make my own top 25 every week, too. Shows Sept 11-21

Saturday September 11, I returned to my hometown, Clarion, Iowa, with Jake Sharon, and did a show at Little Willies. This show went a lot better than the last one back in April. People were actually listening and got my jokes since they were somewhat sober! Had a lot of fun hanging out in Clarion, Eagle Grove, and Belmond, got to see a lot of friends!

September 16-18 I performed at Snickerz in Fort Wayne, Indiana, with Dennis Blair, one hell of a guy! Melvin Bender, Stephanie Lochbiler, and Mike Moses also did sets, they all did great. Had a lot of fun at the club, it was my first time there. Did a couple different radio shows on Friday which was pretty fun. Everyone was really nice, can't wait to go back!

I flew back home on the 19th. I ran into Doug Stanhope in the Atlanta airport, and Josh Blue at the Denver airport. Did a show that night in Golden as part of the Night of Champions, which I ended up winning!! I was pretty excited about that. Then I had to cruise back to Denver for a set at the Vine St Pub. I had to follow TJ Miller, he's pretty damn funny. Had an awesome lineup: Bobby Crayne, Kevin O'Brien, TJ, me, Sam Tallent, Chris Charpentier, Nathan Lund, and Ben Kronberg! Awesome show.

Tuesday night I did a set at Comedy Works, filming for my submission for the Laughing Skull Festival. Had a great set, hopefully the Laughing Skull judges think so! I'll keep ya posted 2 people that might be reading this!

Hotchkiss, CO

Did a show with Jake in Hotchkiss, CO, I kept calling it Crotchkiss, cuz I'm hilarious.

The show was at the West Elk Inn, which was a pretty cool place. Wasn't packed or anything, but we had a great show. We walked around the town a bit, went up to the cemetary and hung out. The cop kept following us around town, so I went to the store and bought a fake mustache so he wouldn't recognize me.

Jake took a poop at the gas station.

Albuquerque

Went down to Albuquerque with Jake Sharon to do some shows. Friday the 20th was at the Lotus Night Club. I did a 12 minute headline set, yeah 12 minute headline set! It was fun though. Kind of a shitty place though. Got to hang with my friends, N8 and Ashley after though which was nice.

Saturday did 2 shows at the County Line. Small crowds, but had a great time. Lots of cool people showed up which was nice. Pay was crap, but I got to see some family and friends.

Also I advanced to the semifinals in the New Faces Contest at Comedy Works which is bad ass!

Texas Trip

I just spent about a week and a half in Texas, it was 100 degrees every day! No rain or anything.

First week, I was at Hyenas in Fort Worth, working with Billy D. Washington, the opener was Shaun A, I'm not gonna try to spell his last name. Shows were great all weekend, Shaun was an awesome opener, really got the crowd into it! Billy D rocked, I'd never seen him before. He remembered me from the Comedy Works back in 2005 when I did a set for the contest. The staff was super cool, Jerod, the manager was awesome. Can't wait to go back for sure! They also have a couple of Dimebags guitars hanging on the wall, which is really neat.

Monday I went to San Antonio with Kris Shaw, we had a couple gigs in S. Texas, so we left on Monday. We went and hung out at River Center Comedy Club downtown and watched their open mic showcase. It was a nice club, got to see an old friend, Todd Larsen, and met some other cool comics. Tuesday we had lunch with David Beck, who was in town featuring, I met him once when I worked at Wits End, really nice guy. We went to lunch at some Italian place, I wish I could remember the name, it was awesome!

Tuesday night's show was in Weslaco at the Paradise Roadhouse. The crowd was pretty decent size, but not great laughers. I didn't have a very good set. But, it was fun. And the opener was Dat Nigga Tre. That's fun to say.

The next night was a lot better. We performed in McAllen at the Cine El Rey Theater, which is an amazing venue! Very good size crowd, kinda slow on some of the jokes, but I had a great time!

Thursday I headed back to Dallas to perform at Hyenas with Dante! I love working with Dante. The opener was Casey Coleman, it was his first time opening and he did a great job. Kind of reminded me of me when I was just starting out. Which sucks for him. Lol, jk. Well, Thursday night was pretty weird. Pretty small crowd and they didn't like to laugh at all, so it felt like a bad show. Everyone after the show seemed to enjoy it though and that's all that matters I guess. The weekend was awesome, had 4 sold out shows!! Billy, the manager, was great, too.

Met a lot of cool people on the trip, all the people at the clubs were awesome. Definately looking forward to going back to these clubs!

Excited for College Football to Start!

September 4th is Iowa's first game! Should be a blow out against E. Illinois. The following week is the big in state rivalry with Iowa State. I'll actually be up in Iowa, which will be pretty cool!

I lined up a gig at Little Willies in Clarion for that night! Did a show there back in April, it was a lot of fun. First time performing back in my hometown. Can't wait to do it again. Got some other gigs lined up that week in Wisconsin and possibly Minnesota as well! Check my schedule, I'll update it when I get the info. I'm typing like people actually read this.

Tonight I am doing a set at the downtown Comedy Works! I love performing there, the crowd was response is always amazing.

Thursday I'm bussing down to Dallas, I'm performing at Hyenas in Fort Worth Friday and Saturday, then I've got a couple one night gigs in S. Texas in Weslaco and McAllen on the 10th and 11th with Kris Shaw. Then back to Hyenas in Dallas for the 12th-14th with Dante! I worked with Dante a few months ago for the first time and had a blast.

I won't have much computer access while I'm out there, so no blogs probably.

Today I am going to a job fair at the airport. I'm really hoping to get a job there, it would be a nice part time job when I'm not on the road. And cheap flights!

Got in with a new booker today, too, Eric Yoder. Pretty excited about that!

And with college football about to start I'll make my top 25 list, I always like to do that before the season. I'm a huge nerd.

Sharon Jacobs-Comedienne

Sharon Jacobs had just graduated from a small college in Nebraska after growing up in Loveland, Colorado. She had always dreamed of being a stand up comic just like her idol, Johnny Carson. She had written material during college, but never had a venue to perform. She knew if she didn't start now, the dream might pass her by.

Instead of moving back to small town Loveland, she decided to try the big city...Denver. She had been to 5 or 6 comedy shows at the downtown Comedy Works and always thought to herself..."I can do this." One of her friends from high school gave her some info on a neat little place downtown for rent. She went and checked it out and loved it. She moved in a few weeks later, starting her new "grown up" life downtown.

She went to the new talent night at Comedy Works to meet some local comics and get info on other stages she could hit up. Everyone mentioned the Square Lounge, they have an open mic every Tuesday following the Comedy Works show. Sharon stuck around and watched the open mic at Comedy Works and loved every minute of it. She went down to the Square Lounge afterwards, a shitty little bar on a shitty street. She didn't like the feel of the Square as much as the Comedy Works, but figured she had to start somewhere.

She signed up with the host of the show, a skinny tattooed comic named Glen Buckmaster. He told her she'd be 10th on the list. She sat quietly in the back as the show began. Glen, the host, went up and did about 5 minutes of the crudest, unfunny material she had ever heard, but the crowd loved it. She patiently sat and watched the comics go up, some of the nastiest things she'd ever heard with Glen insulting all the comics in between. Sharon was starting to feel unsure about her set, which was squeaky clean. She was worried it wouldn't go over well, "what would Glen say about her" she kept thinking. She thought about leaving and never showing her face there again, but she couldn't. As she sat there thinking she heard..."please welcome...Sharon Jacobs!"

The butterflies in her stomach were going crazy, she hadn't realized she had already drank 10 cups of coffee, which is not normal for her. In fact, she rarely drank 10 cups in a week. She took the stage with confidence grabbing the microphone, "Hey give it up for Glen, I can't wait to hear what he says about me." She knew in the back of her mind she couldn't do her material here, so she decided to go off the cuff. There was a big guy sitting right in the front with a bunch of tattoos and a shaved head. Sharon looked right at him and said, "who let this faggot in?" The crowd erupted, she got her first huge laugh! She felt something she had never felt before, but it didn't last long.

The next thing to come out of her mouth stunned the crowd...vomit. She puked all over the microphone and the stage and pissed in her pants. All of the coffee finally got to her. She ran out of the Square embarrassed and was now on Koufax covered in piss and vomit, and actually looked normal. She ended up heading home, taking back ways so normal people would see her. She was so embarrassed of what had happened but she needed to do stand up. The thrill of the huge laugh excited her some much, but she knew the comics would poke fun because of what had happened. She decided the only thing she could do would be to get a sex change. She got the sex change, grew a beard, and changed her name to Jake Sharon.

Leela's

Last night I closed the show at Leela's European Cafe, for Sam and Roger's Night of Hilarious Fun. The crowd was pretty noisy, but the people who were listening were great. Had some great comics on the lineup: Roger Norquist, Sam Tallent, Matt Baca, Steven AJ, Jason Keyes, and Josh Nelson.

I'm doing a set at the downtown Comedy Works on Tuesday!

This weekend I will be performing at Hyenas in Fort Worth, TX! It'll be my first time performing there. I'm excited to see my buddy, Jason Russell. I'm working with Billy D. Washington.

Friday Night

Hung out with Caitlin, we ended up walking down to the 16th Street Mall, and walked over by the new Massage Envy she's going to be working at! Looks like a nice place. It's on 15h and Wewatta, it's opening Wednesday or Thursday!

Tonight I'm doing a show for Sam and Roger's Night of Hilarious Fun at Leela's European Cafe on 15th Street. Sounds like it will be a lot of fun. It's all ages, too.

Loonees

Caitlin and I drove down to Colorado Springs last night. I was planning on just stopping in to hang out with my buddy, Nathan Timmel, who was headlining at Loonees and ended getting to perform and make a little money which was great. Awesome show, too, the crowd was great. I hadn't seen Nathan perform in a couple years, he's got a really solid act, very smart and clever, and funny! He took us to eat at Noodles & Company it was pretty delightful!

Jesse Carter Roast

MC'ed the Jesse Carter roast last night at Old Chicago, it was a lot of fun. It was neat to talk shit about people, lol.

Tonight I am performing down in Colorado Springs at Loonees with my buddy, Nathan Timmel! I haven't seen him in a long time, so it should be a lot of fun.

Saturday I am performing at Leela's European Cafe for the Sam and Roger's Night of Hilarious Fun! That should be a night of hilarious fun for sure.

Shows

Saturday night, Jake Sharon and I performed in Monte Vista, Colorado at Alibi's Sports Bar. It looked like a small crowd, but they ended up being pretty cool. Jake and I had a really good show, even though it started an hour late.

Sunday night we did another show for the UMS at the Hornet. The lineup was awesome: Jake Sharon, Talon Saucerman, Jordan Zuckerman, Brent the Great, Chris Charpentier, Sam Tallent and Hippieman just to name a few. The show went pretty long, but there were people actually hanging out and listening, so that was cool. I did 10 minutes and had a pretty solid set.

Monday night went to the Lion's Lair for a set. Did a bunch of Diabeetus jokes. Those are fun. Brimley.

Tonight is the roast of Jesse Carter at Old Chicago. I've got some stuff written for it, but need to put together a few more things. It should be fun, but I know some people will get their feelings hurt. Boo hoo.

Back to the 80's

I thought this was a neat writing exercise. Writing a story about the 80's, using a lot of 80's references. So, here is the story I wrote.

Corey Haim and I were watching "Night Rider" when the phone rang. Since it was attached to the wall, I had to run in the other room and answer it. On my way in the other room, I tripped over an Ewok Village toy that was had been left there by the kid from E.T. I was hurting, but I had to make dinner. I yelled in the other room, "hey, where's the beef?" After finding the beef and making supper for Corey, Elliott, and I, we decided to hook up the Atari! I wanted to play Asteroids, but Elliott wanted to play E.T. It made me crave Reese's Peice's, so I decided to go for a midnight snack. I put baby in the corner, and I was on my way.

As I was driving, listening to "Charma Chameleon" a weird black van pulled up next to me. A crazy looking black guy with a bunch of gold chains and a mohawk looked at me and creeped me out a bit. Not because of the chains and mohawk, because he was black....Michael Jackson black. I decided to ignore him and run to the convenience store. It was closed, what a convenience, back then 7-11 was open 7-11.

So, with no snack, I decided to just go home. I was getting ready for bed and had to step up on the toilet to reach my new tube of toothpaste. I ended up falling off the toilet and hitting my head...that's when I came up with the Flux Capacitor. It made it possible for time travel. The only thing is, I could only travel anywhere in the 80's.

I decided to travel to March 10, 1987, to put a stop to my favorite tv show from being cancelled...Fraggle Rock. I was too late, Scott Bakula had Quantum Leaped into my body and couldn't figure out what the hell I was doing there and ruined everything. The thing you never heard about Quantum Leap, what the hell happened to the person while Scott Bakula was you? Well, I found out, you had sit in a room and watch "Sidekick" starring Chuck Norris, over and over.

My next move was a huge mistake, I travelled to January 28, 1986 and got aboard the Challenger Space Shuttle....73 seconds later, I was dead.

Weekend

Friday night I did a show at Sobo 151. I went on pretty late, no one was listening. We had a lot of talented comics on stage, Jake Sharon, Matt Baca, Sam Tallent, Tim Coleman, Jodee Champion, Roger Norquist, Rick Bryan, and Nathan Lund.

Saturday, Jake, Caitlin, and I took a little road trip down to Monte Vista for a gig at Alibi's Sports Bar. We drove through the mountains on the way there. It was a pretty nice drive. The show was supposed to start at 8, but we started just before 9. The crowd was small, but they were a lot of fun. I ended doing a little over 40 minutes and Jake did a little over 50. I think everyone there had a good time, so it wasn't a bad night. We ended driving back to Denver after the show. We took I-25 on the way back, I fell asleep.

Tonight I am doing a set at the Hornet at 7 pm. A lot of great comics on the bill tonight, so if you get a chance come down! Hippieman will be there!

Comedy Works

Last night I did a set at the Comedy Works Landmark as part of the New Faces Contest. This is my 3rd time in the contest, first time, I didn't make it past the first round, the second time I made the semifinals, but wasn't able to make it up to Denver. Last night I advanced to the Wild Card round which will be August 18! D. Kelley, Roger Norquist, and Kenneth Newmeyer all advanced, it was a great show, congrats to those guys who advanced!

I'm performing tomorrow at Sobo 151 in Denver, it's part of the Denver Post Underground Music Showcase! Should be a lot of fun, lots of great comics. Hoping to check out some local bands as well.

Today I submitted my first column for "The Diatribe" magazine. My column is called, "Take That...." it's just me ranting a bit, it's pretty fun! "The Diatribe" is based out of northern Wisconsin near Superior and Duluth, MN.

Blogging is neat.
